If you don’t have people to talk to, then your business is dead in the water. You are in business to sell your product, service and opportunity with people. If no product is being moved then no money is being generated. You will need to actually talk to people.
So where do you find them?
First… doesn’t do you any good if you have people to talk to but you don’t know what to say. Pick up a copy of the free audio download of “Network Marketing Questions That Work.” You’ll be able to control the conversation and get the right prospects to chase you and WANT to know more details about your business.
This way of finding people to talk to in network marketing is usually the first thing that your sponsor, mentor and company will tell you do. You must get out there and actively prospect people. They’ll probably tell you to start with your warm market and it’s a great place to start.
***Now, I know what some of you are thinking. Some of you are thinking that you don’t want to talk to your warm market I used to think that way as well. I didn’t want to talk to my warm market until I got some success because I felt like I was bothering them. If you think that prospecting your warm market is bugging them then you are doing it wrong. While it’s a great place to start, your warm market isn’t the only place that you can find people to talk to about your business. You can find endless leads by cold call realtor signs, calling business cards that you get from bulletin boards or meeting people at networking events. Passive marketing is putting out some sort of advertisement or call to action into the market place and waiting for people to reach back to you. When I first got started in the profession, I did lots of marketing. I would put out bandit signs (those are the little yellow signs with that have a short hand written message on them in black sharpie marker) at busy intersections in the hopes that people would read the sign and reach out to me. People laughed at me but I had a group of friends that went out several times a week to put out those signs and they brought in a lot of leads. I can think of one sign in particular that made me $10k in one month. (Obviously, results not typical)
You can put out fliers, rent a billboard (and yes, I tried this. It’s not as effective as those cheap little hand written signs. I’m not sure why but at the time I was more interested in the results so instead of spending my time pondering why something didn’t work, I just spent my time doing what I knew what would work. and I went back to the cheap little signs.), put a sign on your car. There are so many things that you can do. Lately in the last year or 2, Attraction Marketing has gotten extremely popular.If you don’t know what attraction market is, it’s basically putting value out into the market place so that you look like an authority. You are teaching your audience and providing them value in the hopes that they will reach out to you. I can understand why attraction marketing has gotten so popular. I would rather talk to someone that has reached out to me and asked me about my business, product or service rather than cold call people. I get it.
There is small catch to attraction marketing. It takes some time to get the momentum going.
You can be waiting a long, long time before you even get your first lead. Most network marketers quit within their first 30 -90 days. So if they are using ONLY attraction marketing to grow their business, then they’ll probably end up quitting before they even attract their first lead.
If you are planning on doing some attraction marketing, I strongly recommend that you do some active prospecting until your marketing kicks in. That way you can keep building your business while you are waiting. Do both! If you are patient, hungry and working hard you’ll see results come in.
