One day you will nearing the end of your life. Will you be happy with how you lived your life or will you have regrets?
I recently read an article about the biggest regrets of the dying by a nurse named Bronnie.
Bronnie Ware is an Australian nurse who spent several years working in palliative care, caring for patients in the last 12 weeks of their lives. She recorded their dying epiphanies in a blog called Inspiration and Chai, which gathered so much attention that she put her observations into a book called The Top Five Regrets of the Dying.
The biggest regret was this:
I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
“This was the most common regret of all. When people realise that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people had not honoured even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made. Health brings a freedom very few realise, until they no longer have it.”~Bronnie Ware
So now we know the biggest regret of the dying but how do we make sure that we avoid it.
Heads up: I’m offering a free audio mp3 so you can learn 6 Law of Attraction Life Hacks that will allow you to implement the Law of Attraction everyday in an effortless way.
Dare To Be You
We spend so much of our lives trying be accepted. We try to keep up with the Joneses. We try to keep up with the latest trends and fashion. We try to fit in.
What if instead of trying to fit in, we decided to be ourselves?
All of the biggest successes became successful by being themselves and daring to stand out.
If everyone just tried to fit in then the world would be robbed of the talents of Picasso, Michael Jackson and Muhammad Ali. The world would be robbed of the leadership of Gandhi, Mandela and Dr. Martin Luther King.
How different would the world be if these great people decided that they just wanted to fit in?
(Not) What Everyone Else Is Doing
The biggest part of being a success is not acting like everyone else. A whopping 95% of people are either dead or dead broke by the age of 65. If you want to be successful, then don’t be part of the 95% . That means don’t do what everyone else is doing.
Let’s say that you lose your temper and act inappropriately. You say things that you regret and you do things that you regret. Most of the population would try to justify their actions or blame someone else. They say something like, “I just did what anyone else would have done!”
But you aren’t most people.
If you want to be part of the 95% and be part of the population that avoids the biggest regret of the dying, you would not blame others or try to justify your behaviour. You would admit you were wrong and learn from the experience. By doing so, you separate yourself from others and you are less likely to lose your temper in the future. It’s not about being right or wrong, it’s about how much you learn and grow.
It’s these simple things that make a big difference in your life.
Success in life not about fitting in. It’s about standing out and being bold enough to take a risk of looking foolish.
