Have you ever wanted to prospect someone over the internet?
Tried to pitch them over email?
Maybe sending a mass email or fb message with a great pitch that you’ve put together with a link?
How did that work out for you?
Trying to pitch over email
Prospecting over email or internet isn’t just ineffective, it also makes you look very unprofessional.
Would you buy your personal home over the internet?
Would you hire someone over the internet(besides 1 time gigs on odesk or fiverr)
Would you accept a job over the internet?
The internet is a great way of getting information but when it comes to business transactions you have to be either on the phone/skype or in person to look professional.
If you are nervous because you aren’t sure what to say when you talk to a prospect on the phone then get the free audio download of “Network Marketing Questions That Work.” You’ll be able to steer the conversation and get the right prospects to chase you and WANT to know more details about your business.
Email But No Phone Number
I recently wrote an article about the need to talk to people on the phone if you really want to build a team.
One of my readers named Rich left me message on my blog:
Hi Kenny —The question is: When all you have is a suspect’s name and email address, and you want to speak to them personally, what would you write in an email that would have the best chance of motivating them to call you? Or, to send you their phone number so you could call them?
What Rich recognizes is that it isn’t wise to do a full blown pitch when you are prospecting over email. Many network marketers make the mistake of writing an email that looks hypey and spammy:
I’ve just joined this business and we are going to be rich! Blah, blah blah…. ground floor opportunity… blah blah blah… scientifically proven… blah blah blah… there this guy making $20k a month…. blah blah blah… this 23 year old make $6k in his first month. blah blah you have to check it out. www.LinkNoBodyClicks.com
If you’ve tried this, you’ll realize that this is annoying to your prospect and ineffective towards building your business.
So if you don’t do a full blown pitch and you don’t have their phone number, what do you do?
If there is an friend that you want to try prospecting and you don’t have there phone number because you just got reunited on fb or you lost it then send them an email that looks like this:
I want to talk to you about something that’s important to me but I don’t have your number, when is the best time to reach you and the best number to call you on?
That’s it. Don’t send a link and don’t pitch. Leave the pitching and the connect for when you are on the phone.
If you don’t know what to say when you are on the phone then at start off with the 4 words that will get you a yes.
Maybe you have someones email but you don’t really know who they are. They may have opted in to your email list.
Again, don’t send them a hypey, spamming message.
If you want to try prospecting your list, instead of giving them a full blown pitch on email, find out first if they are open to having a look at something.
Send a message that looks something like this:
This is a quick note because I’m expanding my team right now. If you are unsatisfied with your current progress and you are open to looking at something new, then reply to this email and let me know.
If you want to try prospecting for customers (for a weight loss company) it could look something like this instead.
We all know that summer bodies are made in the winter. I’m helping people lose weight and get healthier this year. If you know anyone that wants to finally lose the weight and keep it off, let me know by replying to this email.
Obviously change the message if your prospecting for a product that isn’t about weight loss. The idea is to have them respond if they are interested. To all those that are interested, that’s not when you send them a hypey message but when you get them on the phone.
Thanks for your interest. Typically, when I’m considering a new member for the team, I like to talk to them on the phone. What’s the best number and the best time to reach you?
The best thing that you can do if you have their email but no phone number is to ask them for it. Don’t try prospecting over email it just isn’t effective.
