The whole point to building a team in network marketing is to leverage their efforts.
Often many network marketers find that when they recruit a team, their new business partners just aren’t as motivated to work as you hoped they would.
So how do you motivate your team?
For a long time, I thought that the best way to motivate my team was to train them. I would spend hours on the phone with my team teaching them how to work the business. It was fun to do and it also boosted my ego. The problem is that it hardly ever worked. It didn’t really motivate them to do work. So then I thought that I should try some group training. It was fun to do and everyone said they learned something but it still didn’t quite motivate people. I’ve found that spending time with my team doesn’t necessarily mean that I can motivate them or that they will be successful.
More time spent with your team doesn’t necessarily mean more success for your team.

Work With Hungry Not The Needy
One of my first mentors in the profession once told me, “Don’t spend your time with those that need your help, spend your time with those that deserve your help.”
That made a lot of sense to me. But how do you determine the ones who really deserve your help? How can you determine who is really hungry?
If you try to motivate everyone on your team, you will only get frustrated because there are a lot of people who will say they are motivated but when it’s time to work and actually talk to people, they will instead watch a training video. They are wrongly thinking that watching a video or studying the compensation plan is “working” the business. What they really need to be doing is prospecting.
Give Them Homework
Instead of training them (yet another time) on how to prospect, give them an assignment. For example, tell your team to prospect 10 people and then get back to you.
This simple assignment will tell you who is really motivated and hungry vs who is not.
What Will Happen
When you give this assignment to your reps, 1 of 3 things will happen.
1. Some (actually most) won’t do it. This is good because you know who to spend your time with and it’s not these people. You can still invite them to group trainings and keep them in the loop but limit your individual time with this group of people.
2. Some will talk to 10 people and will get little to no results. This is ok because this group might need some help but at least you know that these people are ready to work. It only takes a little bit of fine tuning and practice to help someone get better at prospecting. Go over the scripts with them, role play with them and tell them to talk to more people. They will get better and better the more they do it.
3. Some will actually get sales and sign ups. This is great because your team is growing. This success will help build belief in your team and motivate more of them to take action.
Giving your team members homework is the the first way to motivate your team. I talk about the second way in the video.
So now you know the 2 best ways to motivate your team.
Will you implement these strategies so you can build a successful business that is always growing and duplicating?
