The Power Of Habit
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit. ~Will Durant
Your habits determine your life.
You can guess someone’s habits by looking at their results.
If they have yellow teeth they probably have a habit that stains their teeth like smoking or drinking coffee or maybe they have a habit of NOT brushing their teeth.
If they have a healthy body then they probably have a habit of working out and eating healthy.
If you want to change your results. Then change your habits.

Why We Do What We Do In Life And Business
Today’s book Review is called The Power Of Habit: Why We Do What We Do In Life And In Business by Charles Duhigg. This book is fascinating that you can learn about how a habit develops but it also has benefit other than learning why your habits form.
In The Power of Habit, award-winning New York Times business reporter Charles Duhigg takes us to the thrilling edge of scientific discoveries that explain why habits exist and how they can be changed. With penetrating intelligence and an ability to distill vast amounts of information into engrossing narratives, Duhigg brings to life a whole new understanding of human nature and its potential for transformation. This book also shows you to stop bad habits and how to start good habits. It’s a great read and it uses relatable stories to explain and prove its points.
An example of one of these stories is this:
Marketers at Procter & Gamble study videos of people making their beds. They are desperately trying to figure out how to sell a new product called Febreze, on track to be one of the biggest flops in company history. Suddenly, one of them detects a nearly imperceptible pattern—and with a slight shift in advertising, Febreze goes on to earn a billion dollars a year. From http://charlesduhigg.com/
What others are saying about The Power of Habit
“Charles Duhigg masterfully combines cutting-edge research and captivating stories to reveal how habits shape our lives and how we can shape our habits. Once you read this book, you’ll never look at yourself, your organization, or your world quite the same way.” ~Daniel H. Pink, author of #1 New York Times bestselling Drive and A Whole New Mind
“Charles Duhigg’s thesis is powerful in its elegant simplicity: confront the root drivers of our behavior, accept them as intractable, and then channel those same cravings into productive patterns. His core insight is sharp, provocative, and useful.”~Jim Collins, #1 bestselling author of Good to Great and Built to Last
“The Power of Habit is not a magic pill but a thoroughly intriguing exploration of how habits function. Charles Duhigg expertly weaves fascinating new research and rich case studies into an intelligent model that is understandable, useful in a wide variety of contexts, and a flat-out great read. His chapter on ‘keystone habits’ alone would justify the book.”~David Allen, bestselling author of Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity
I’m not just reporting this book as theory and something that might work. After I read the book I started to implement some of the strategies to get rid of some bad habits and replace them with good habits. In the past when I woke up in the morning, I would lay in bed for about 30 mins and check email and social media on my phone.
Since I’ve read The Power Of Habit, I’ve stopped looking at my phone in the morning and I do the following:
-20 mins of Meditation for 261 days in a row
-20 mins of Yoga for 609 days in a row
-100+ squats each morning for 337 days in a row.
These changes(that started small) have made a tremendous improvement with my health and my peace of mind.
If you know you have bad habits and you want to change them, then this is a book you need to read.
If you want to start some good habits then you are also a good candidate to read this book.
